My father said this to me more than once as he struggled with loss and reflected on the life he was living relative to what he had envisioned. I was there for him as much as I could be. My father needed more.

More than thirty years earlier, I had watched my grandfather navigate the loss of my grandmother. He didn't articulate his despair the way my father did. He didn't need to.

The trajectory of these two men, and a belief that more can be done to support people navigating loss, serious illness, major life transitions, and other periods of complexity, was the impetus for founding Second Chair Partners.

After more than 25 years advising affluent families on their investments and finances, most recently as a Partner at Prime Quadrant, I continued to feel there was a gap. Families had excellent advisors, but no single person responsible for standing beside someone during the day-to-day complexity that follows disruption.

Second Chair Partners was created to fill that gap, and to allow me to apply my experience in a more direct, personal, and meaningful way.

My professional background spans investment consulting and counseling, portfolio management, equity research, project finance, and engineering. I hold an engineering degree from McMaster University, an MBA from the University of Toronto, and am a CFA charterholder.

Over the years, I have also taught and mentored CFA candidates and served in volunteer and governance roles, including long-standing service on The Atmospheric Fund's Investment Committee, CFA Society Toronto, and as board chair of a Toronto-based children's charity.
