FREQUENTLY ASKED
Questions:
-
Individuals from affluent families who are navigating loss, illness, major transitions, and other periods of complexity. Adult children sometimes initiate engagements.
-
When a person lacks decision‑making capacity or requires considerable caregiving, we may not be the best partner.
We are not therapists nor physical caregivers, and we do not provide formal financial, legal, or medical advice.
We ensure that all of these elements are in place and coordinated as needed.
We are focused on the overall well-being of our clients. And while we’ll go down rabbit holes to ensure all is in good order, we’ll likely arrange for more appropriate support if we’re spending more time on administration than on supporting overall well-being.
-
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, let’s talk. Our complimentary consultation can help you assess whether you’d benefit from support. There’s no downside to exploring what’s possible.
-
Care managers and case managers help coordinate care and connect people to services. Second Chair Partners extends beyond this. We work across a wider range of personal, family, and practical issues, often outside formal systems. Our focus is on continuity, overall well-being, and execution.
-
No. We work alongside your existing team (financial, legal, tax, medical, caregivers, service providers, and other advisors). We help ensure they are coordinated, aligned, and moving forward together.
-
We start with a complimentary, confidential consultation. If there's a fit, we continue with a one-month paid trial to assess needs, build connection, and create a roadmap with refined pricing.
-
Each roadmap is unique. It typically clarifies priorities across financial, household, healthcare, and personal domains; identifies what needs immediate attention; and sets a cadence for in-person presence, coordination, and reporting.
It might look something like:
Stabilization & Trust (Months 1–2): Assessment, relationship development, roadmap, and immediate support (bills, appointments, estate, household).
Capability Building (Months 3–5): Life skills support, financial organization, household management, technology support, and preparation for increased independence and outward engagement.
Community Integration (Months 6–9): Hobbies, volunteering, social calendar, alumni network, and support for holidays/anniversaries.
Independence with Safety Net (Months 10–12): Monitor habits, celebrate wins, ongoing check-ins, and support as needed.
Continued Check-Ins: Six months of follow-up.
Cross-Phase/As Needed: Advocacy, executor/estate support, separation/divorce support, financial/business/tax planning coordination, insurance/pension coordination, document/digital legacy management, downsizing support, and family communication.

We’re based in Toronto, Canada. Some of what we do can be done remotely: research, phone calls, coordination, and planning. Many clients benefit from in-person support. Let’s discuss what’s possible.
-
Typically no, as this is not medical care or therapy, though some executive benefits packages may provide coverage for our services.
